About Tim Dennis
I'm Director of the UCLA Library Data Science Center, a position I've held since 2017. Over 26 years in the UC system, I've built the infrastructure, programs, and networks that make data-intensive research sustainable at institutional scale.
That work includes UCLA Dataverse — a campus-wide research data publishing platform with 1,600+ datasets — Redivis, UCLA's governed environment for restricted and sensitive data, and the UC Carpentries network spanning 10 campuses and 2,800+ learners. I'm Co-PI on a $1.85M Sloan Foundation grant building open source program offices across UC, and PI on a $237,000 IMLS grant developing open science curriculum for librarians nationally.
My work sits at the intersection of research infrastructure, open science policy, and workforce development. I care about building systems that outlast any single grant, any single person, and any single funding cycle.
